In late 2008, a series of seven leather-bound notebooks were found in a basement closet above a set of old pipes in a stately old home in San Francisco. No name appeared inside any of these notebooks to state who they belonged to or how they ended up where they were found, but they were journals, meticulously kept by a man who made his living as a private detective. After some research, they were believed to be the work of Rocky Stone, who had received some note during the 1950s, due to stories written about him in a pulp magazine, True Real Detective, by an author named Adam Santeno. According to the stories, Stone was active in the city of Los Diablos, California, which some scholars believe is either Oxnard, California or Dubuque, Iowa.
